Heinrich Hoffmann (1885 – 1957) served as Adolf Hitler’s official photographer from when Hitler took control of the Nazi party in 1921 until his death in 1945. Hoffmann estimates he took over half a million photographs of Hitler over the course of his career. His portraits were the most significant source of Nazi propaganda materials published over the course of close to 25 years, everything from postcards, posters, magazines, postage stamps and picture books. This is a HUGE series of Adolf Hitler portraits, all taken in Heinrich Hoffmann’s studio in the early part of 1928. As seen in the Hitler in Lederhosen series, Hoffmann often photographed Hitler in various outfits during the late 1920’s in order to help him to decide what would make himself look most appealing to the German public. Obviously the SA uniform (sans the kepi hat) is the look he ultimately chose to go with, but thankfully photographic evidence remains of the many other attempts he made at shaping his image. Also note how he was trying out several different hair styles in the late 20’s, finally settling on the distinctive long forelock that he retained once he became Chancellor of Germany and Führer of the Third Reich.

Grrrrrrr I hate Mondays
Just Hitler being sexy

I’ve been trying to track down a higher resolution photograph of this marvelous Adolf Hitler portrait to the left and this really amazing one just above it. I run across new photos from this particular portrait session quite frequently. I’m simply amazed how many there are in this particular series, and that they have never been consolidated all into one place. It’s interesting to note that there are actually not that many photographs of Hitler taken in the year 1928.
